22. Europa Cantat festivali võõrustajaks on valitud Liepāja, kaunis Läti linn Läänemere rannikul.

EUROPA CANTAT 2027 IS TAKING SHAPE – THE PROGRAMME WILL BE ANNOUNCED THIS JULY
Just a little more patience – the detailed programme for the beloved international festival “Europa Cantat” will be revealed this July!
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
EUROPA CANTAT is one of Europe’s oldest and largest choral music festivals. From 1961 to 2021, it was organised every three years, each time in a different country. The festival brings together singers and choirs from across Europe and around the world to share their passion for singing, discover one another’s cultures through ateliers and workshops, perform in final atelier concerts, and experience life together beyond the stage. The last full edition was held in Tallinn, Estonia, in 2018, while the most recent edition took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 2021, organised on a smaller scale due to the pandemic.
Liepāja, a beautiful Latvian city on the coast of the Baltic Sea with rich musical traditions, has been chosen as the host venue for the 22nd festival. Liepāja, also the European Capital of Culture 2027, is a dynamic modern city, blending global aspirations with the comfort and charm of small-town living. Nestled between the Baltic Sea and Lake Liepāja, the city has rich and vibrant cultural traditions and wide and varied recreation options.
AN EXTENSIVE PROGRAMME AND DIVERSE MASTERCLASSES LED BY WORLD-FAMOUS CONDUCTORS
From 9 August to 15 August 2027, Liepāja will host a variety of concerts, offering the opportunity to enjoy performances by guest artists. Every day, there will be OPEN SINGING for festival participants and visitors.
More than 3,000 participants will take part in 37 ateliers. Under the guidance of experienced conductors, they will have the opportunity to master a diverse repertoire representing various genres—from Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and contemporary choral music, opera and symphonic pieces to pop, rock and jazz arrangements, as well as performances with choreography.
The ateliers will offer a vast musical journey: participants will explore Baltic (Ingrid Mänd: Music by two Pärts: Arvo Pärt and Pärt Uusberg) and Nordic musical traditions (Håvard Gravdal & Elisabeth Anvik: Norwegian Folk Tunes), discover the musical character of Turkey, Greece, Ireland, the Alps, and the Adriatic region, and uncover the distinct rhythms of Latin American (Federico Trindade: Latin-American Popular Choir – Voice, Body and Flow) and Cameroonian (Jean Alexis Bakond: Cameroon in song: Choral traditions from the Heart of Africa) choral music. The material mastered during the ateliers will be showcased by the participants in special concerts at the conclusion of the festival.
The line-up of atelier leaders includes internationally renowned professionals, such as conductor Elisenda Carrasco from Spain (Catalonia), Petra Grassi, a grand prize winner of several international conducting competitions, and many other outstanding choral conductors to be revealed in July. Jaan-Eik Tulve will also lead an atelier as part of the festival.
PERFORMANCES BY WORLD-CLASS MUSICIANS AND SINGERS
From August 10 to 13, an extensive programme of world-class guest artist concerts is planned in Liepāja. It will feature performances by the Finnish vocal group “Rajaton”, the Norwegian vocal ensemble “Pust”, the Georgian vocal ensemble “Adilei”, Lithuanian vocal group “Jazz Island”, as well as choirs such as “Tenebrae” from the UK, scenic vocal ensemble “VoNo” from Sweden and “Sofia Chamber Choir” from Ukraine. Estonia will be represented at the festival by the Estonian National Opera Boys and Male Choir.
The detailed festival programme will be published in July, while participant registration will open in autumn. The festival is open to choirs and vocal ensembles, as well as individual participants—conductors, artistic directors, and other music industry professionals. We invite you to follow the latest updates on the festival website and social media channels.
