In October 1813, over 600,000 soldiers from all over Europe fought in and around Leipzig during the greatest battle of history until that time. Over 100,000 soldiers and civilians died in this decisive battle in the war against Napoleon, which was later called Battle of Nations. To commemorate the dead, the Monument to the Battle of Nations, the highest monument in Germany, was unveiled in 1913.
In 2023, Leipzig will be the place for a peaceful encounter all about music. Choirs from all over Europe will sing with and for each other. A central concert location will be the Monument to the Battle of Nations with its unique acoustics.
